In Memory of Don Bogardus
ANNOUNCEMENT
We are sorry to inform the community that Don Bogardus, kiteboarder and kiting instructor, tragically
died of a brain aneurysm on July 14, 2007. Don was a revered member of the kiting community in Alameda.
He taught kiteboarding for Boardsports School in Alameda for the past 4 years. He was a kind, gentle
spirit with a complete and total devotion to his kiteboarding students. He was a 25 year windsurfing
veteran and 6 year veteran kiteboarder, and his endless knowledge helped inspire hundreds of students.
He helped countless people on the beach, and will be missed tremendously by all who knew him. We have
set up a donation fund to provide a memorial for him in Alameda. This may include a bench or a wind sock
or some item to help his spirit continue on at the beach.
You can make a contribution for a memorial in honor of Don by clicking the link below.
The San Francisco Boardsailing Association will hold the funds for the purpose of funding a
memorial to Don. A local committee, consisting of Alameda locals who knew Don well, will
authorize any use of the funds.
