Foster City to Seek Windsurf Concessionaire
According to Parks and Recreation Director Kevin Miller, Foster City staff will soon go to
the Council for authorization to seek proposals for a windsurf rental and lesson
concession at Third Ave. The exact arrangements are not defined yet, but may involve the
concessionaire charging for parking. SFBA will follow up and report on progress as things
develop.
Opportunity to Restore Access at S.M. Bridge
Lincoln Development Co. filed a permit application with BCDC in November to develop office
buildings at the east terminus of Third Avenue, in an area where windsurfers had access
until the city and property owners closed it off. Letters reminding BCDC that there was
formerly access here and asking them to provide parking and bay access as part of the
permit should be directed to:
S.F Bay Conservation and Development Commission

Attn: Bob Batha, re Major Permit No. 15-97
The fax is (415) 557-3767. Write a letter, maybe save a site
Other Third Ave Issues
Golf range fencing - as of March 14th, poles (approx. 16') are in place at the end of the
pitch and putt course to support a net to block errant/intentional shots Into the rigging
area. Presumably the net will follow soon.
Ramp repairs - the repairs to the main ramp have held up over the winter, although the
ramp could use a little work (at the base) to make It easier to negotiate. Foster City
says they will undertake more ramp repairs if this repair holds up.
A wetland restoration project in the area to the northwest of the rigging area is still
in the works. Hopefully this project will reduce the size of the pond that occupies part
of the rigging area now. SFBA will try to review and comment on the plan.
The new paved access road (with parallel parking along it) is finished, and the old
unpaved access Third Avenue road is still open. SFBA is working on preserving the ability
to park along the old access road, rather than having this area closed off as was planned.
Tim Scudder has volunteered to follow up on this issue.
Annual Third Avenue Cleanup Day - Sat. May 16, 10 a.m. to Noon
Not as much heavy labor this year as the City has fixed the main ramp, but there'll be
the usual trash and glass, and maybe we can make the upwind ramp more negotiable. Also,
the rotting rugs with grass growing out of them need to be removed. See you there with
gloves and implements
Volunteer if you want to help on any of the above Issues, the clean-up, or want to work
on an idea of your own, contact Randy Anderson.
Candlestick News
Jeff Craft of the San Francisco Windsurfing School has indicated that he is starting a
longboarding club out at Candlestick. The club will be holding races and freestyle events.
For those joining the club, SF Windsurfing School will be offering some free clinics. For
all Candlestick sailors, SF Windsurfing School will also be offering free safely classes.
These 3-hour classes will cover the skills that all sailors, especially those that sail at
Candlestick, should know.
Coyote Pt. News
There will be a clean-up day and free BBO at Coyote Pt. on Saturday, May 16th, 10 am -
noon. This is coordinated with the clean-up at 3rd Avenue, so come out and support keep
