ABK Sports says "No Men Allowed!" at June Windsurfing Camp

This season, in an effort to attract more women to the exhilarating sport of windsurfing, ABK Sports will be holding a 3-day Women's Camp, June 26-28th, at San Luis Reservoir, California. The camp will be geared for all ability levels - from women who've never stepped on a board to women who are confident sailors working on perfecting their jibes and learning some tricks. The goal of the Women's Camp is to have women learn, become confident and excel at windsurfing in a fun, non-intimidating environment.

A typical camp day will begin with optional morning conditioning and in-line skating. A nutritious breakfast will follow to gear up for the day ahead. Instruction will include on-land lectures and simulator work as well as on-water demos and drills. Lunch will be served at the sailing site and afternoon clinics will follow. After the day of windsurfing, campers and staff will meet for dinner to have a relaxing meal on the water, laugh and talk about their day. The evening will end with video analysis when the campers can get more feedback on their form and technique while watching themselves on video. The final day of camp will end with Closing Ceremonies when the campers will be able to win prizes such as Revo sunglasses, Teva sandals, Okespor water shoes and more!

There will also be many products for the women to sample and demo. The 1998 ABK Windsurfing Tour sponsor line-up includes: BIC Sport boards, Neil Pryde sails, Granny Goose snacks, Sailboard Vacations, Amstel Light, Fin Works, Kerrits, Nambe, Okespor, Patagonia, PowerBar, Revo sunglasses, Rollerblade, Teva Sandals and Wind Tracks Magazine.

The ABK camps were created fifteen years ago to promote the sport of windsurfing. At that time, windsurfing was gaining popularity around the world primarily on a self-taught basis. ABK Sports filled a vital niche in the industry by developing the first professionally run windsurfing camps. The idea stemmed from similar tennis and ski racing camps. Now, ABK is expanding their horizons in establishing the First Annual Women's ABK Windsurfing Camp.
