Third Avenue
Annual Third Ave Cleanup a Big Success
Due to the planning and organizing of 3rd Ave fixture Jay Runge, and the ever-appreciated
noshes provided by Windsurf Warehouse,
the May 16th cleanup went off like clockwork. About 40 people were delegated to projects
by Jay, including:
- Fixing the end of the main ramp with concrete
- Fixing the end of the upwind ramp
- Building a "bypass" route down the rocks at the main ramp
- Cleaning up rotting rugs, glass, water heaters, a dishwasher, part of a boat, and
numerous tires with (special thanks to the legendary Bob "Mud Man" Previtt, who
has made it his mission to rid the Bay of junk!), and finally
- thanks to the mighty, mighty men who shifted the pile of huge rocks just downwind of the
main ramp to provide more clearance.
Everyone should thank Jay for getting things
organized. That's why they call him a "son of a beach"!
In other news at Third, the net is finally in place at the end of the pitch and putt
course, "no parking" signs have been posted along the side of the driving range
(which people are interpreting to mean "park at your own risk"), and a Jawa sand
crawler is being constructed across from the entrance road, which provides a handy
landmark from the channel. Should we rename the place Jawa Point?

Candlestick News
Jeff Craft of the San Francisco
Windsurfing School has indicated that he would like to sponsor a beach cleanup on a
Sunday morning and low tide at Candlestick when there is no game. The beach is a real mess
and everyday I am there someone cuts their foot.
Thanks Jeff - SFSW

Editors note - As both of my feet and my diminishing Band-Aid collection can attest (ouch)
we really do need to clean-up the shore at Candlestick so that we can keep sailing at the
best flat water sailing spot in the bay area.
