Site Steward Pilot Program in memory of Brett Powell
9/24/2017 Announcement at Season End Party in Memory of Brett Powell – and kickoff of Site Steward Pilot Program
Brett had a generous spirit and steadfast commitment to helping others. So it is only natural that we would launch a volunteer site steward program in his honor. The spirit of the program is to support fellow kiteboarding community members by providing a lending hand (as Brett often did for others) and promoting safety. We will formally kick off the program at a Spring Site Steward Training BBQ in April 2018. Our goal is to establish a scalable Site Steward Volunteer Program that will serve the broader Bay Area community in 2018 and beyond.
The Site Steward Pilot Program is a volunteer program for any kiteboarder willing to assist your fellow kiteboarders in promoting safety and protecting access. Many individuals do this regularly at every site around the Bay. This program is a way to increase visibility of volunteers who give back some time to keep others safe. Site stewards will help riders understand local safety guidelines, launching best practices, and ultimately help to protect access. Site Steward FAQs
Who can volunteer?
Anyone who kites and is willing to donate some time before or after you ride to help others. How do I sign up to volunteer? We had a sign up sheet at the raffle desk at the 9/24 event. Also, you can also sign up by attending our Spring Site Steward Training BBQ in April 2018. Site Stewards will receive training & shirts or hats to wear while volunteering. A season end party will reward volunteers with raffle sponsored prizes. The Spring Site Steward Training will be announced on SFBA.org, BayAreaKiteboarding.com, and BoardsportsCalifornia.com |
